Cable Car Hopfgarten - Hohe Salve

Tyrol’s No. 1 viewing mountain

A Well-Connected Mountain for Sports and Activities – Standing Proud at 1,829 Meters

The Hohe Salve, with its freestanding summit at 1,829 meters, is one of the most accessible mountains for outdoor enthusiasts. On clear days, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Kitzbühel Alps, the Zillertal Alps, the imposing Wilder Kaiser massif, and the majestic High Tauern range. From the revolving panoramic platform at the summit restaurant, you can enjoy a 360° view of more than 70 peaks over 3,000 meters – no strenuous hike required! Thanks to the modern 8-seater gondolas from Hopfgarten and Söll, reaching the summit is both easy and comfortable.

Once at the top, a visit to Austria’s highest pilgrimage church, the Chapel of St. John the Baptist, is a must. This charming mountain church is also the perfect starting point for countless scenic hikes. One particularly accessible walk circles the summit dome of the Hohe Salve. This gentle panoramic trail, designed without any major inclines, offers stunning views of the surrounding mountain landscape. Another highlight is the Sundial Trail, featuring 12 stations that reveal the mysteries of the sun, wind, and weather while illustrating the fascinating history of timekeeping. And don’t miss the wind harp, which transforms the breeze into music – an invitation to pause, reflect, and simply listen.

Cabel car Itter - Kleine Salve

The Kleine Salve – A Scenic Getaway at 1,565 Meters

With its summit at 1,565 meters above sea level, the Kleine Salve is a beautifully developed destination for relaxation and recreation – and it offers stunning panoramic views. Even the ride up in the panoramic gondola from the valley station in Itter treats you to sweeping vistas of the Wilder Kaiser and the surrounding valleys. At the top, a spacious circular viewing platform invites you to soak in the full 360° panorama: from the nearby Brixental and the wide Inn Valley to the impressive Wilder Kaiser and the Kleine Salve’s “big sister,” the Hohe Salve, just next door – all offering new and unforgettable perspectives.

Just below the summit, a crystal-clear mountain lake provides a peaceful setting for rest and relaxation, inviting you to bask in the sun and enjoy the open sky. The Kleine Salve is the perfect starting point for leisurely hikes in all directions. For summit seekers, a hike to Tyrol’s most scenic peak – the Hohe Salve – is highly recommended. It can be reached in about 1 hour and 15 minutes from the top station of the new gondola lift.

Gentle hiking trails offer a variety of routes with inviting mountain huts along the way. The Kleine Salve is also a comfortable entry point to the high-altitude circular trail around the Hohe Salve, which takes about two hours to complete.
